English Language Course – Featuring the Data Vandals, a New York City–based collective

Join the Data Vandals and take data directly to the people!

In this workshop you will create data visualization posters, sculptures, and paintings to directly engage with your community.

What Will You Learn?

Interactive Public Engagement:

Create participatory experiences that invite audience contribution through real-time data collection, generating living datasets.

Collaborative Creation:

Collaborate to bring data concepts to life through experimentation, and collective problem-solving.

Data as Community Conversation Starter:

Use information visualization to shed light on everyday challenges, spark meaningful dialogue, and encourage thoughtful action through data-informed storytelling.

This Course Is for You If…

… you are an artist and want to learn new approaches to directly engaging with your audience and community.

… you work in data and want to learn new approaches to make your work more engaging, surprising, and inspiring.

… you are curious about how to use data to generate conversations on topics that matter.

… you don’t need a background in data visualization to join, just a willingness to collaborate with others, get your hands dirty, and have some fun conversations!

This Course Might Not Be for You If…

… want to learn traditional data visualization. We won’t be teaching anything about data visualization fundamentals.

… this will mostly be using traditional art materials – no coding or digital work. (You will need to do some research, though)

…if you just don’t want to engage with communities to have productive conversations.

About Data Vandals

Data Vandals is a creative collective that transforms complex information into powerful visual narratives. In a world increasingly driven by data, they believe this information shouldn’t remain buried in databases—it should be seen, felt, and experienced.

Their work brings data to life in public spaces, galleries, museums, and parks, turning abstract figures into striking, immersive encounters. With a multidisciplinary approach that blends art, design, and technology, Data Vandals creates installations that spark dialogue, curiosity, and new perspectives.

By reshaping how we engage with information, they invite audiences to see the world through a more connected, meaningful lens.
