Format

The Data Storytelling Summer University is a hybrid event that offers both on-site and virtual participation options, so you can choose the format that works best for you. 

On-Site: 

For those attending on-site, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in the Data Storytelling Workshop, a hands-on training experience led by top experts in the field. You’ll also have access to lectures and talks from our lineup of distinguished speakers, as well as the chance to engage in Q&A sessions with them. And of course, there will be social activities throughout the event to help you connect with other professionals and students in the field. 

Virtual: 

If you choose to participate virtually, you’ll still have access to all the lectures and talks, as well as the opportunity to engage in Q&A sessions with our speakers. This is a great option for those who are unable to travel to the on-site event or who prefer the flexibility of attending from anywhere with an internet connection. 

Whether you attend on-site or virtually, you’ll have the chance to learn from experts in the field and connect with a diverse community of professionals and students.

  • Day 4: Project Presentations & Talks / Dataviz meetup with local practitioners

Mentors

  • Damla Çay

    Data Visualization Researcher

    Damla is a design researcher with an interest in understanding human experiences related to data and designing meaningful human-data interactions. She received her PhD from Koç University, where she adapted, extended and enriched existing data visualization design and evaluation methods. She is currently working at MOME Innovation Center as a researcher.

  • Evelina Judeikytė

    Data Storyteller and Designer

    Evelina is an independent data storytelling and design specialist based in Paris. She is an information designer with almost a decade of experience in data and communication. She has worked at both large companies, smaller startups and organised TEDx events. She runs Parabole Data Studio.

  • Attila Bátorfy

    Data Visualization Expert

    Attila is a data visualisation expert and media scholar based in Budapest. As the head of ATLO he tells data based visual stories. Attila also researches and teaches dataviz, data journalism and media theory at the Media Department of ELTE University.

  • Anne-Marie Dufour

    course leader, front-end developer

    Anne-Marie is an independent front-end developer specializing in data visualization. She has a computational fluid dynamics and mechanical engineering background and loves breaking down complex subjects into digestible and applicable bits.

  • Krisztián Szabó

    Data Journalist

    Krisztián is a data journalist from Hungary. Currently working at Átlátszó and ATLO, best at creating maps and visualizing various topics.

  • Mihály Minkó

    data visualization expert

    Mihály is a data visualization expert with passion for every form of visualization, be it digital or physical. He studied philosophy at the University of Szeged and currently works at MOME Innovation Center as a researcher. He has been teaching data visualization in MOME Open for several years now.

  • Melinda Sipos

    Data Visualization Expert

    Melinda works on physical data visualizations, pursues her related doctoral studies at the Moholy-Nagy University of Arts (MOME) and holds tinkering workshops for children.
